Chris Samuels not retiring from NFL

Ashburn, Va. -- Veteran Washington Redskins offensive tackle Chris Samuels has refuted reports he is retiring, but will miss the rest of the season with an injured neck.

Samuels suffered a "stinger" in a 20-17 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Oct. 13 and has not played since.

An undisclosed source told the NFL Network the six-time Pro Bowl selection was considering retirement, but the first-round draft pick by Washington in the 2000 NFL draft out of Alabama says no decision has been made.

"I will continue to seek medical advice (and) I hope to see where I am physically over the next couple months," Samuels said in a statement late Friday. "I have not made a decision, but I love playing for the Redskins and hope to be back."

The 6-foot-5, 317-pounder has spinal stenosis and consulted a California specialist this week. He has been told he risks paralysis if he plays again.
