Lavigne files for divorce from Whibley

Los Angeles, Oct. 14: Canadian-born pop star Avril Lavigne has filed for divorce in Los Angeles from Deryck Whibley, her husband of three years, court records indicate.

People.com said the singer cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split and requested the court deny spousal support to Whibley, a member of the rock band Sum 41.

The couple announced last month they had separated.
