Man arrested for Leona Lewis slap flap

London, Oct. 14 -- A 29-year-old man was arrested for allegedly assaulting singer Leona Lewis as she signed copies of her new book at a London shop Wednesday, police said.

Witnesses told the BBC someone slapped Lewis in the face and punched the recording artist inside the Waterstone's Piccadilly Circus book store as fans waited to meet her and have her autograph their copies of her autobiography, "Dreams."

"Leona was the victim of an unprovoked attack," the singer's publicist confirmed to TMZ. "The police were called immediately and medical attention has been sought. Leona is understandably shaken and apologizes to the fans she was unable to meet and complete signings."

Police told the entertainment news Web site a man was arrested for suspicion of assault.

No motive for the alleged attack was mentioned in the report, however.
People.com said Lewis canceled a planned appearance on BBC's "The One Show" Wednesday night following the incident.
