Hunt in talks for Tierney's TV role

Los Angeles -- Helen Hunt is in talks to replace Maura Tierney, who is undergoing treatments for breast cancer, in the new TV series "Parenthood," The Hollywood Reporter said.

Hunt is best known for her Emmy Award-winning work in TV's "Mad About You" and for her Oscar-winning turn in the film "As Good As It Gets."

"Parenthood" is a contemporary small-screen adaptation of Ron Howard's 1989 movie of the same name, which was about four adult siblings with their own children.

In the upcoming mid-season show, Peter Krause, Erika Christensen and Dax Shepard play three of the siblings, while Bonnie Bedelia and Craig T. Nelson portray their parents.

The Hollywood Reporter said Hunt would play the fourth sibling, an updated version of the character played by Dianne Wiest in the movie.

Tierney, who was previously cast in the role, announced last week she had to drop out of the project to undergo treatment for breast cancer.
