Hospitalized Liz Taylor "falls in love" with Twitter

New York, May 25: Hollywood icon Elizabeth Taylor, who is in the hospital for what her rep calls a "routine visit", has joined the Twitter madness. The 77-year-old actress has found the micro-blogging site to be the best way to keep in touch with her fans.

Elizabeth Taylor has become obsessed with the popular micro-blogging site Twitter, using the site to communicate with her friends and fans

Elizabeth Taylor’s Twitter obsession
Taylor is in the hospital right now. Still, she uses the popular site daily to communicate with her followers and to stay informed about the health and well-being of her new puppy as well.

According to Taylor’s publicist Dick Guttman, the Oscar-winning actress has "fallen in love" with the wildly popular micro-messaging service and has become so obsessed with the site that she tweets every day from her hospital bed.

Some of her tweets are quite funny, with one asking friend Kathy Ireland to smuggle her new puppy into her hospital room. In the tweet, she asks Ireland to smuggle the dog past hospital security.

"Thanks darling for the beautiful flowers and all the prayers," the “Cleopatra” actress told Ireland in Friday's Twitter-message. "Now can you just get my puppy past hospital security. Love ... ."

Some other tweets from Taylor are:
* I've never been double-crossed by a sweet puppy or a lion in the jungle.
* It's not true that I love animals more than people -- they are a very close second.
* Just saw "Twilight" on DVD. I want more!
* Congratulations to Carole Bayer Sager on being selected for the 2009 Founder's Award from Lupus L.A.
* When in Rome, check out my jewels at the Bulgari retrospective at Il Palazzo delle Esposizioni, the brand's first in 125 years.

Taylor currently is in a Los Angeles hospital for a "routine visit" and is doing fine. It is not yet known when the actress will be released from the hospital, but Guttman said she "will be home soon".

Taylor’s health history
Taylor, who is confined to a wheelchair to get around, has a long history of health troubles. In 1997, the actress underwent brain surgery to have a brain tumor removed and in 1983, she signed herself into the Betty Ford Clinic in California for treatment of her alcohol addiction.

In 2004, Taylor announced that she had been diagnosed with congestive heart failure, a condition in which the heart pumps insufficient blood throughout the body. She has broken her back five times, has survived skin cancer and has faced life-threatening bouts with pneumonia twice.
