Major congressional committees showed interest in this regards, with added features like online “exchange” to help people compare and buy best insurance plans in their area, and provision of subsidies and tax credits to aid low-and middle-income people to afford the coverage suggested.
Senate Financial Committee reviewed several policy options in order to expand the coverage, and it is being worked upon intensely by Senate health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.
Currently, all aspects of the plans are under construction since money involved is the key concern. For example, there is no consensus on how to pay for a plan which may cost more than $1.5 trillion by next decade.
Once the House and the Senate resolve their differences, major disagreements like – to give option of public insurance or not, if yes, then who may join it - may be solved.
Between all this, the health industry fears that the Congress may provide option of Medicare-style insurance, which may slice down business of private insurers and cut short “extra” revenue of hospitals.
