Rihanna wants cops to return her seized Jewelry

The borrowed bling bling, worth $1.4 million, was confiscated by LAPD as evidence the night Rihanna was allegedly assaulted by her then boyfriend, Brown

Los Angeles, April 25: R&B singer Rihanna is attempting to recover the precious jewelry she lost the night of her alleged beating by Chris Brown.

The 21-year-old pop diva has been trying to recover her borrowed jewelry, worth $1.4 million, from the LAPD since late March. Four jewelers had loaned the pricey items to Rihanna for the pre-Grammy party she was to attend with Brown that night (Feb. 7).

After weeks of unsuccessful attempts to recover more than $1 million worth of accessories, which were taken by the Los Angeles Police Department as evidence in their investigation, the pop diva knocked at the doors of court to get her bling bling back.

A lawyer for R&B star Rihanna, Attorney Donald Etra, filed a motion in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday (April 21), requesting the cops to hand back three designer rings and a pair of earrings she was wearing the night she was allegedly assaulted by her then boyfriend, Brown.

"Since there appears to be no evidentiary value to the continued holding of this jewelry ... we respectfully [ask] the court to order the return of this property to [Rihanna] without further delay," Etra wrote in the court request.

Etra said he has made several requests for the designer jewelry that were lent to Rihanna to wear to the Grammy Awards, and submitted written requests on April 7 and April 17.

"The investigating officer gave me his opinion that photographs would be sufficient, and the D.A. said to write her a letter and they'd consider returning it," Etra said. "I have heard nothing since the last letter to the D.A."

Etra told People magazine he doesn’t understand why LAPD is not returning the items to the singer. "If the DA doesn't need the items, and the LAPD doesn't need the items, there's no reason why they shouldn't be returned," Etra told People.

Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles attorney's office told People that the delay is only due to the fact that there hasn't been a preliminary hearing in the much-publicized Chris-Rihanna case.

"At this stage, we're not even sure what evidence is going to be entered into the case," said LA DA's office spokesperson Sandi Gibbons.

A spokesperson for the LAPD declined to comment, saying, "For now, we don't have any further comment on this matter."

The troubled R&B singer Chris Brown was arrested on Feb. 8 in Los Angeles on suspicion of making criminal threats against a woman, believed to be Rihanna, after a late-night dispute. He was charged with the two felony charges- assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury, and making criminal threats.

Early this month, the 19-year-old musician pleaded not guilty to felony charges that he threatened and assaulted his pop star girlfriend, Rihanna. Brown is due to appear in court next on April 29 to set the date for a preliminary hearing. If convicted on the two counts, he could face a sentence ranging from probation to nearly five years in state prison.
