Review: iHome iH15 Portable Speaker
Rating: *** {3/5}
Upside: Stylish and sleek design, easy to carry, sets the mood with in-built mood lights, customizable color changing options.
Downside: No add-on features, no protective case or holder for iPhone, other missing features, such as radio, remote, alarm, usually expected in a portable speaker.
Overview: The iHome iH15 pops up as yet another portable speaker among the me-too generation speakers. Priced at $60, this little cube sized speaker, somehow, manages to stand out with its simplistic style and features.
This 5.25 inch cube is distinct for being able to change its colors as per your liking. Capable of donning rainbow-like seven colors, the wondrous speaker is visible softly in normal light, whereas in dark, it is appealing to the eyes.
You also have the option of switching off the lights if it disturbs you. But if you are expecting more features from this iHome speaker, you can stop expecting. This is all that the little speaker has to offer.
The iHome boasts of speakers on three of its sides and a sub-woofer on the fourth. It has just four buttons in it; one for power, two for volume and one for switching the color options. There is also a 3.5mm jack built in for other audio or MP3 devices.
The speaker is compatible with almost all generations of iPods and many other MP3 devices. The sound of this little cheeky cube is not all that impressive but sufficient enough to set up the right mood. Perhaps, the addition of clock, alarm and radio would have attracted a lot of potential consumers as a replacement for table lamp. A remote control also would have proved handy for the device, making the device a little bit more appealing.
To sum it all up, the iHome iH15 is an unfussy device to pump up the volume on your iPods. One indeed expected a lot more from this promising looking speaker, but with the price kept as low as $60, it was obviously meant to be an entry-level speaker for iPods.
