LaCie's LX - Sleek, Stylish and Solid

Review: LaCie’s Rugged LX 1TB External Hard Drive

Rating: ***\ (3.5/5)

Upside: Enchanting design, hard body with shock absorbers, excellent backup software support, high speed performance through eSATA and USB interfaces, absolutely affordable, a whopping 1TB of storage capacity.

Downside: Could have increased the storage capacity more to 1.5/2 TB to compete well in the market, needs a separate adapter to charge, much bigger in size than the highly successful ‘Rugged All-Terrain’.

Overview: If you have used LaCie’s All-Terrain hard drive, you would certainly like to lay your hands on the latest product from LaCie-the LX 1TB external hard drive. This new hard drive is packed with functions as well as design.

Aesthetically designed to look like a beauty wherever you keep it, it has an aluminum body with rubber protection and internal and external shock absorbers.

It certainly is bigger in size than its predecessor but that because the storage capacity has been doubled to 1TB.

LaCie could have worked a bit more on the capacity as the market offers external hard drives of 1.5 and 2TB as well. Still, LX 1TB is the only hard drive in the market which comes with so many layers of protection.

LaCie’s LX supports data transfer speeds of up-to 80mbps through the eSATA drive, and up-to 30mbps while transferring from the USB 2.0 connection. The technical designer of LX should have included the same charging system i.e., bus-powering, instead of getting the device hooked to a separate adapter, which makes on-the-move use of the drive complicated.

Another feature that makes this product extremely user-friendly is its compatibility with both Mac and PC’s and the backup software incorporated within the drive.

Last, but by no means the least, the affordability of the product at $160 gets it into the to-buy list of consumers.
