Nokia navigates into new Arena with 330

Nokia has made its latest endeavor to translate its booming sales into solid revenue and profit growth. The Finland-based company has released its first dedicated personal navigation device with pre-installed Europe-wide maps, the Nokia 330 Auto Navigation.

 <p>The product will take you across European borders effortlessly allowing you to enjoy the ride, while it does the navigating. At present the device is limited to offer access to only Europe-wide maps but offers clear spoken and visual directions on the large 3.5 inch color touch screen.</p>
<p>"Consumers are increasingly eager to use personal navigation devices while driving and we are delighted to introduce the Nokia 330 Auto Navigation device to meet this demand," said Razvan Olosu, vice president, Multimedia Enhancements at Nokia. "Nokia 330 Auto Navigation complements the recently announced GPS and navigation solutions from Nokia. Finding your way across Europe is simple with this comprehensive navigation package, including an integrated GPS receiver and European maps."</p>
<p>Nokia 330 does not function as a phone but is able to play music and display photos and videos. It comes with a 2GB memory card to hold all the information. With its latest product Nokia wants to make sure that you get the best possible satellite coverage on your journey with its integrated GPS receiver.</p>
<p>Netherlands-based TomTom which has more than half of the European car navigation market will now receive heavy competition from Nokia. The company that claims to have sold 1.2 million car navigation devices in the July to September quarter will have to come up with newer products to keep its place in the market. </p>
<p>"TomTom won't need to worry for 2007 (sales and profits), but Nokia entering the market does pose a real threat," ING analyst Cornelis Bos said. "Nokia will now offer navigation on cell phones as well as standalone devices. It has clearly defined it as an opportunity and will gain a lot of experience."</p>
<p>Nokia 330 is expected to be available in Europe in the fourth quarter 2006, around Christmas, and its pricing is estimated at $456 (360 euros).</p>
