Baltimore -- A Baltimore man won a close-up view of President Barack Obama's inauguration by promising in an essay to use the occasion to ask his girlfriend to marry him.

Bill Ferguson, 25, was just one of 10 people to win the inaugural committee's "Ticket to History," beating out more than 250,000 entrants in the panel's essay contest, the Baltimore Sun reported Wednesday.

The newspaper says the committee was smitten with the idea of Ferguson and Lea Smith, 25, becoming engaged while Obama was being sworn in as the nation's 44th president.

Ferguson and Smith are former Teach for America volunteers.

Ferguson is a Baltimore City schools intern and Smith works on education issues at the Open Society Institute in Baltimore.

No date for the wedding has been revealed.

By Elizabeth Brokamp:

We could argue all day about whether kids need credit cards. The concept of need is pretty subjective, especially when it comes to kids -- one day they'll claim to "need" a new iPod, and the next it's trendy kicks or the latest game system. But many parents and their progeny are already sold on the benefits of plastic (especially for emergencies), making them ripe pickings for bad-guy credit card companies. Don't let yourself or your child fall prey to one of the lousy lenders.

Manchester,England -- Parents of children with troubling eating habits have to be careful when trying to adjust their kids' behaviors, a new British TV documentary says.

Dr. Gillian Harris, a child psychologist, says in the new ITV1 documentary "My Child Won't Eat" that parents who engage in behaviors such as forcing new foods on children are engaging in fruitless behaviors, The Daily Telegraph reported Saturday.

"Once you're into making carrots into funny shapes you've lost the plot," she said. "You're prompting, encouraging but never forcing."

Harris has a successful track record of offering advice to parents of children with poor eating behaviors, the Telegraph said.

The newspaper said 12-year-old Rebecca Scowcroft is featured in the documentary, which airs Monday, regarding her unhealthy obsession with chocolate.
