Covington, Ky. -- Attorneys for NASCAR have asked a U.S. district judge to dismiss a suit against their client filed by the Kentucky Speedway over its lack of Nextel Races.

Appearing before U.S. District Judge William O. Bertelsman this week, attorney David Boies said that the conspiracy allegations made by speedway officials are due to a lack of Nextel Races at the sports venue, The Cincinnati Post reported Wednesday.

"It has NASCAR events," Boies said during Monday's hearing in Covington, Ky. "It has many NASCAR events. It simply doesn't have a Nextel Race."

Speedway officials have accused their NASCAR counterparts of working with the International Speedway Corp. to fiercely control where and when Nextel Races are held.

"We have been denied a Cup race for eight years in a row because of the conspiracy to maintain their monopoly powers," Speedway attorney Stephen D. Susman alleged recently.

Homestead, Fla. -- Police in Homestead, Fla., are investigating a shoving incident involving Nextel Cup driver Kasey Kahne and a racetrack security guard.

Several reports Saturday said Kahne knocked the security guard to the ground Friday night at the Homestead-Miami Speedway after his brother, Kale, was stopped at the course's gate and denied entrance because Kasey Kahne could not provide the proper credential.

Police Capt. Tom Foglia said the security guard, whose name was not disclosed, complained his blood pressure had escalated, NASCAR.com reported.

An emergency vehicle was called and the security guard was taken to the infield care center.

"We are looking into the matter (and) the detective (involved) is handling it," Foglia said.

Fort Worth, Texas -- Jimmie Johnson Sunday beat Matt Kenseth by less than a second to capture the Dickies 500 Nextel Cup auto race at Fort Worth, Texas.

The victory in the eighth of the 10-race "Chase for the Nextel Cup" was Johnson's ninth this season, his first at the Texas Motor Speedway, and the 32nd of his "Cup" career.

Johnson's No.48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet crossed the finish line 0.944 seconds ahead of Kenseth's No.17 Ford, and gave him a 30-point lead over teammate Jeff Gordon in the points battle.

"I can't thank these guys enough," Johnson said about his crew. "I'm just tickled to death. These guys have been working so hard. They give us this opportunity (to win) week in and week out."

Martin Truex Jr. was third, Kyle Busch fourth, Ryan Newman fifth and Gordon finished seventh.

Hampton, Ga. -- Jimmie Johnson won Sunday’s Nextel Cup Pep Boys 500 auto race at Hampton, Ga.

His No.48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet crossed the finish line ahead of Carl Edwards as a caution flag during a green-white checker finish ended the race.

It was Johnson’s eighth victory this season, and 31st of his Nextel Cup career.

He survived the wild finish, which happened when Dale Earnhardt Jr. lost a wheel, and slammed into Jamie McMurray.

A checkered flag resulted and ended the race.

Reed Sorenson, Matt Kenseth and Jeff Burton completed the top-five.

“We had like a fifth place car all day,” Johnson said. “The caution worked in our favor (and) I have to thank everyone in the race shop for giving us great race cars. Now we are within striking distance.”

Sao Paulo -- The ruling body of Formula One racing announced Thursday communications involving McLaren drivers would be monitored during Sunday's season-ending race.

McLaren's two drivers -- Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso -- hold down the top two places in the points race and will be battling for the championship at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Since the drivers have a strained relationship, and since there have been reported differences between Alonso and team manager Ron Dennis, officials in Formula One want to make sure Dennis gives both drivers an equal chance to win.

The decision to listen in on the communications between the drivers and their pits came after a request to do so came from the Spanish Motorsport Federation.

Alonso said earlier this year that Hamilton was getting preferential treatment.

Talladega, Ala. -- Jeff Gordon won Sunday’s UAW-Ford 500 Nextel Cup Race, the fourth event of the 10-race "Chase for the Nextel Cup."

Gordon finished the race just .066 seconds in front of Jimmie Johnson for his fifth win of the season and the 80th of his "Cup" career.

"We laid in the back because this car had a lot of unknowns," said Gordon. "We just wanted to play it safe until it counted."

Gordon only led the race for the final lap, but the win still put him four points above Johnson at 5,680.

Clint Bowyer is also now 58 points behind Gordon after finishing in 11th place.

The "Chase for the Nextel Cup" will resume Oct. 13th at the Lowe's Motor Speedway.

Kansas City, Kan. -- Greg Biffle beat Clint Bowyer to win Sunday's LifeLock 400 Nextel Cup race at Kansas City, Kan., the third event of the 10-race "Chase for the Nextel Cup."

The victory was Biffle's first this season and 12th of his "Cup" career.

With 27 laps left after a caution flag, Biffle and Jeff Harvick had enough fuel to reach the checkered flag, with Biffle taking the checkered flag at the end.

Tony Stewart was third, almost two seconds behind the lead pair.

"I'm just excited to get a win this season," Biffle said.

Jimmie Johnson, Casey Mears and Jeff Gordon completed the top-five.

NASCAR officials announced that because of darkness, there would not be a green-white-checker finish.

The race finished under caution and Biffle coasted across the finish line for his first win of 2007.

Fiji, Japan -- Formula One driver Felipe Massa Friday said he will be back with Ferrari next season.

"It's impossible for me not to be at Ferrari next season because I have a contract that expires a year later," said Massa, who is fourth in the drivers' standings with three races remaining this season.

"The 20 points that separate me from (leader Lewis) Hamilton don't help but we can still be competitive."

Massa added he would be willing, if necessary, to help third-place Finnish teammate Kimi Raikkonen, who trails Hamilton by 13 points.

Fernando Alonso is second, 2 points behind the leader.

"If I no longer had a chance, I wouldn't mind helping (Raikkonen)," Massa told ANSA.

Kansas City, Kan. -- Jimmie Johnson won his third pole in four weeks Friday, grabbing the No. 1 starting position for Sunday's LifeLock 400.

Johnson turned a lap at the 1.5-mile oval in 30.846 seconds. Ryan Newman had the next best time and Matt Kenseth will start third.

"I can't believe we've been on this roll in qualifying," Johnson said.

"Qualifying hasn't really been my strong suit over my whole career so we're glad that it's here. It's coming at an important time."

This will be the third in the Nextel Cup's 10-race chase for the championship.
Jeff Gordon leads the points race, but there are five drivers within 28 points of him. Tony Stewart is only two points out of first place.

Gordon qualified fifth Friday and Stewart had the 20th best time.
