BRUSSELS: European Union regulators won backing from member states to fine Microsoft Corp. for failing to comply with an antitrust order.
The fines are reported to go as high as $ 256 million a day and will be backdated to December 15, and could therefore reach as much as 400 million euros.

DALLAS: The Tenet Healthcare Corporation has agreed to a $ 900 million settlement with federal officials to end investigations into accusations of overbilling Medicare. In addition, the company plans to sell about a dozen hospitals in an effort to regain its financial footing.
The settlement,valued at about one-fourth of Tenet's stock market value will be paid over four years and ends all federal investigations by the Department of Justice and several United States attorneys.
