Google is Spreadsheeting!

Every one loves "free for all" and especially if its between two heavyweights. We can draw parallels between two behemoths Google and Microsoft who are poised to compete in just about anything.

This speculation rose when Google introduced its spreadsheet yesterday which is being seen as heading head on towards MS EXCEL. Google's spreadsheet is still part of Google Lab which means you still need an invitation to use it and it is still an experiment but what kind of experiment?

Google Spreadsheet is a surprisingly powerful. By that I mean it is more spreadsheet than you might expect from a free product hosted on a web site. But it's not in the league of current spreadsheets, this isn't OpenOffice or the Word Perfect spreadsheet, or certainly Excel. In fact, it's not even really 1-2-3, in that it doesn't yet have any charting features, and you're limited to 100 rows and 25 columns. But it does have fair number of computing Formulas, Basic Fonts and coloring formats and it does seem to be on a faster side as compared to other spreadsheets but what really steals your heart is that it lets you store and share spreadsheets. Just one click sends a link with the spreadsheet to your contacts, and then they can edit it just within the browser.

But Google is not foolish to direct a head on attack rather it adopts a stealth mode of attack where its looking for a collaboration space rather than real Excel competetitor citing the fact that Microsoft has strong holding in this domain.
