Technology from Dell is now enriching the lives of citizens of Michigan and also helping state agencies to more efficiently provide vital human services such as child protection, adoption and adult placement.
Dell has been chosen by the Michigan Department of Human Services (DHS) and the Michigan Department of Information Technology (MDIT) to install more than 7,200 Dell OptiPlex(TM) GX 620 and Latitude(TM) D610 systems in 115 offices across 83 counties.
Now, DHS has updated its desktops and notebooks and has standardized on a common computer platform across all offices and move from a Windows NT Workstation to a Windows XP Professional environment taking as less time as possible. All this has been done to ensure that the departments continue to provide quality services.
"To achieve our goal, we needed a technology partner to help us manage the project from beginning to end," said Terry Salacina, acting director of out-of-state operations for DHS. "We knew Dell could provide the right technology and ensure that each device was installed properly and in a timely manner."
Dell's basic job will be to efficiently customize and manage the statewide installation and tracking of the new desktop and notebook computers.
Dell has also provided them with asset recovery services which also include the removal and environmentally responsible disposal of old technology.
"With standards-based technology across the organization, the DHS IT team has more resources to focus on projects designed to provide residents with top-notch services," said Debbie Dunnam, vice president of Dell's state and local government and K-12 businesses.
