Los Angeles police on Monday nabbed an armed man, named Robert O'Ryan, after he tried to break into the CBS Studios in Los Angeles where they record the show.
According to court papers, the 34-year-old crazed fan, a Florida native, was stopped by CBS security after he jumped a fence at CBS Studios to meet the young athlete. Later, officers found two loaded guns, a handgun and a shotgun, and duct tape in his vehicle.
The armed fan or stalker first admitted to authorities that he just wanted to get some face time with the 17-year-old gymnast, who also is a performer on the hit dancing competition show.
But, O'Ryan later changed his story when officers informed Shawn and she denied knowing the trespasser, this time telling authorities that he was there to meet another contestant, "Jackass" star Steve-O.
After his arrest, Shawn’s parents filed the restraining order against O’Ryan, in which they claimed that their daughter was "in fear of her life, she is extremely upset by this incident and her entire family and those around are all extremely concerned and fearful that [O'Ryan] might try to kidnap her or harm her in an effort to make good on his statements."
The judge found their claims legitimate and granted a temporary restraining order (TRO) against the stalker that mandates O’Ryan to stay 100 yards away from the athlete, not communicate with her or harass her family or Shawn’s "DWTS" partner Mark Ballas.
O'Ryan is currently being held on $35,000 bail on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm in public. A hearing on whether or not the restraining order will be extended has been set on April 14.
Meanwhile, a report from TMZ.com has claimed that Shawn has hired an off-duty police officer to shadow her around Los Angeles,
Shawn Johnson is the 2008 Olympic women's balance beam gold medalist. She also won the silver medal in the individual all-around competition, receiving a score of 62.725. The tiny athlete won the all-around at the 2007 and 2008 Visa U.S. National Championships, and is the 2007 all-around World Champion.
Shawn is participating with Season 8 of Dancing With The Stars on ABC, and is considered a favorite to win this season’s competition.
