New York, January 26: Gerald McCullouch, who played the crime investigator on nine seasons of CSI, encountered a real-life crook when he was aboard a train from New York’s JFK Airport, just after getting down from a Los Angeles flight.
“It was about 2 a.m.... The train was pulling into the Utica Blvd. station when I noticed someone cross in front of me. Just as the doors opened, he reached for the laptop,” McCullouch said. “I guess he thought he’d grab it and dash out the door, but I gave him a body shot to the chest.”
Bobby Dawson of the hit CBS series was attacked with a knife but his knowledge of boxing helped him get out of it.
“I don’t know why I did that except that I box three or four days a week and had just been in the ring about eight hours before.”
McCullouch was charging his iPhone on the laptop and was simultaneously listening to music at the time of attack.
The thief held out a kitchen knife and on seeing that sharp 10 inch blade, other passengers in the train started running about, trying to reach for the door. “I still had my headphones on with music blaring. I yelled at the top of my lungs, ‘Get the [bleep] away from me!’,” said McCullouch.
The thief tried to hurt his back with the knife but, luckily for McCullouch, he lost his grip and the knife slipped without piercing his leather jacket.
The two then came face-to-face and quite like the reel life, McCullouch punched the goon and the train started moving from the station, leaving the two fighters alone in the car.
“He came at me again with the knife. But the other passengers had told a conductor…who came in and got me into the next car,” McCullouch later told the media.
The train stopped halfway out of the station and cops rushed in to take the goon in handcuffs.
The thief was identified as James Torres, 39. The 6-foot-3 tall offender was charged him with robbery, assault, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon. He is scheduled to appear in court on March 23.
Meanwhile, McCullouch, after signing some autographs, was driven to his home in Manhattan by the cops.
