New York, United States, December 27: Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt might have separated their ways on the personal front, but when it comes to profession the two are together at the top, separately though. The former couple’s individual releases did great business on Christmas, but Aniston surpassed her ex-husband when it came to gross sales.

Both films topped the expectations by 40-50 percent.

Aniston’s ‘Marley & Me’ fetched $14.6 million at the box office on Christmas Day, while Pitt’s ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’ took in only $11.8 million, despite the former being a sappy ode to a dead dog and the latter offering a more cerebrally evocative narrative on the nature of life.

Did the steamy GQ cover shoot help in pulling the audience, who were left wanting more of the former FRIENDS star?

While, some believe that Jennifer has just established herself as an equal if not bigger box-office drawer than her highly desirable ex, celebrity blogger Perez was quick to point out, that ‘Marley’ had a business advantage with more showings on more screens - 3,480 as compared to 2,988 for ‘Button’ which, at two hours and 48 minutes, can’t be shown as often.

Pitt’s movie, based on a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald, has already garnered numerous award nominations.

Last month, on being asked by Oprah Winfrey what she thought about competing with Pitt for the coveted Christmas audience, Aniston replied, “We all want our movie to do well - can we have a tie?"

Christmas Day turned out to be good for movie business as two other films also opened to strong figures.

Adam Sandler's kid-friendly ‘Bedtime Stories’ got the third place after it made approximately $10.5 million, and Tom Cruise's World War II epic ‘Valkyrie’ got a solid one-day gross of about $8.5 million, though the reviews were not all positive.
