Washington, November,27: President-elect Barack Obama has condemned the terrorist attacks in Mumbai. Barack Obama said, “These coordinated attacks on innocent civilians demonstrate the grave and urgent threat of terrorism." Obama’s transition team said that the nation will work to, “root out and destroy terrorist networks.”

India’s financial hub, Mumbai was targeted Wednesday by terrorist group that killed about 100 people and injured about 250. The gunman group attacked luxury hotels, train stations, and tourist attractions with automatic weapons and grenades. The killers ordered hotel guests: “Put your hand up if you’re British or American.”

In this year, this Mumbai attack is the third major terrorist attack upon foreigners in South Asian countries. Deccan Mujahideen, a small little known terrorist group, has taken the responsibility of these attacks.

According to a statement by U.S. State Department, “We strongly condemn the terrorist attacks that have taken place in Mumbai. Our sympathies go out to the families and friends of those killed and injured, and to the people of Mumbai.”

"We are monitoring the situation very closely and stand ready to support the Indian authorities as they deal with this horrific series of attacks. At this point, we are unaware of any American casualties," the statement added.

Rohan Gunaratna, head of the Singapore-based International Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism Research said, “Terrorism in Asia is on the rise, it’s paramount for Asian countries to convene a summit to fight the rising terrorism.”

British Foreign Secretary David Miliband said, “I condemn these attacks unreservedly. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those killed and injured. The UK and India will continue their joint efforts to counter the actions of terrorists."

Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso said the attacks “are utterly unforgivable, vicious and heinous, and we are indignant.”

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said, “Pakistan and India will continue their joint struggles to counter the actions of terrorists.”
