Laura White eliminated from "The X Factor”

Laura White, on Saturday, got evicted from the British television music talent show, 'The X Factor,' becoming the fifth contestant to be booted off the show.

In a sing-off against Ruth Lorenzo, who had previously escaped elimination in the second live show, Laura performed Somewhere Over the Rainbow ' in a Mariah Carey theme night, but failed to win big scores for herself. Ruth sang “Knocking on Heaven's Door.”

Laura joined Ruth in the bottom two, and the latter survived the elimination. The 21-year-old singer lost the battle to stay after three judges, Louis Walsh, Danii Minogue and Simon Cowell, chose to save Ruth.

Laura’s elimination left her mentor Cheryl Cole speechless. Cole was the only one who voted to keep her in the competition.

“First of all you were not the worst two singers tonight so I don't know what went wrong tonight it was a joke. Both of you sang your hearts out. Whatever I say is going to be unpopular," Simon said before announcing her vote.

Dannii said, "It's been such a tense night tonight and everyone did brilliantly. doing Mariah Carey week. You two pulled off beautiful performances. Laura knows I think she is the over 25's main competition, but I have to send home Laura".

"It's an incredible standard. I like both girls," said Louis, who had the deciding vote. "Both have a lot more to give I loved their second songs more than their first. I have to pick someone who has the most fight left in her," he continued.

"Dermot, the person I'm sending home tonight - regrettably - is Laura".

Diana Vickers, another of Cheryl's contestants, was too ill to take part in the Mariah Carey-themed show this week. The 17-year-old contestant has laryngitis and she was advised by doctors not to perform.

During the show, Mariah Carey, the best-selling female performer of the 1990s and popular rap singer, sang the X Factor charity single Hero, with the contestants. The song is at the top of the UK charts.

Eoghan, Alexandra, Diana, Daniel, Ruth, Rachel and JLS are the six remaining acts to compete in next week's competition.
