Washington, October 31st : It maybe three days to the D-day of presidential elections but John McCain still seems to have taken out time from the battlefield to make an appearance on “Saturday Night Live”
McCain’s campaign stated that the senator is expected to make an appearance, but the Representatives at 30 Rock have not confirmed anything. Saturday Night Live has become a must watch during the current political season making a larger impact on the elections than any other television program.
Regarding the appearance a McCain source quotes, “It’s really his last chance to appeal to younger voters. But until he actually walks on that stage, there’s not going to be an official confirmation.”
At the time of McCain’s appearance, Democratic supporter Ben Afflick will be hosting the show and the musical guest star will be American Idol winner David Cook
McCain’s no newcomer on the Saturday Night Show. In 2002 the senator from Arizona hosted the show and also mocked Barbara Striesand’s political leniency towards the Democratic Party through a medley of songs.
The 72 year old made his last appearance on the show in May when he became the Republic nominee for the presidential elections. During the show, McCain joking about his age said "I ask you what should we be looking for in our next president? Certainly, someone who is very, very, very old."
The show which is in its 34th season earned its best ratings in 14 years when McCain's running mate, Alaska Governor, Sarah Palin, appeared on Oct. 18. Former star and head writer Tina Fey, a Palin look alike, has been at the center of the show's recent parodies of the campaign, while regular Darrell Hammond impersonates McCain on the late-night show.
After the news broke out, there was some speculation that Obama might make a special appearance as well. The Democratic presidential nominee was on the show last season but canceled an appearance scheduled in September, because of Hurricane Ike.
Sources close to Obama state that his appearance was never confirmed but “obviously if both would come on, no one would say no.”
