The giant browser, Mozilla is not leaving any stone unturned to make the users click on Firefox 3 that employs version 1.9 of the Mozilla Gecko layout engine on which web pages can be displayed.

Mozilla Corporation launched its Firefox 3 on June 17, 2008.

Under a strategy designed by the company, users of Firefox 2 get an option at their disposal to upgrade the new browser at the time of launching.

A brief list containing the improvements embedded in the new version of Firefox appears in a pop-up which gives the users a choice to upgrade immediately, while sending a reminder after some time, or never flashing a message to update the version.

One loophole in the version’s technicality is that it does not have an automatic standalone update utility that is used by Apple and Microsoft, a utility required to upgrade Internet Explorer and Safari. On contrary, Mozilla uses alert messages to keep the users updated with the availability of new version of Firefox browser.

Unlike other Firefox versions the new version includes the built-in anti-malware tools, an application for which the user needs to get a new end user license agreement issued from the company.

If any plug-ins are found inconsistent with the new browser, the user will be alerted through an additional dialog box.

As estimated by Mozilla, nearly 10 per cent of all Firefox 2 plug-ins have been found to be incompatible with Firefox 3.

The company pointed out that many other companies, in an endeavor to solve this problem have already developed and released new versions of a number of such inconsistent tools or plug-ins.

This effort will certainly promote more Firefox 3 version among the users.

With a marketing push from Mozilla and setting a Guinness World Record, Firefox 3 was received by 8.2 million users who downloaded the version in first 24 hours, after its launch and within two weeks of its launch more than 25 million users were estimated to have downloaded the new version.

By June 2008, the recorded usage share of web browsers for Firefox 3 was 2.31%.

Software master Microsoft also had plans to strike a similar project with Internet Explorer 7 in February.
