The world is full of mysteries and surprises. A recent study has revealed a clandestine quality of tobacco. The researchers from Stanford University in California have discovered a mysterious healing quality of tobacco which can cure a form of cancer!

The substance called tobacco has been known through the generations as something that is extremely harmful, deadly and its regular intake causes cancer but as per the US scientists the lethal material can really save people from cancer.

The study by the National Academy of Sciences shockingly claims the tobacco plant can be useful in treating a form of lymphoma.

US scientists cultured the plant to grow only the key ingredient of a cancer vaccine. Actually the antibodies are grown in the plant which combats specific cells which cause follicular B-cell lymphoma, a type of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Once the antibodies are generated in the plant, they are injected in the body of patient suffering from cancer which in turn activates the body’s immune system to fight against the cells containing antibodies, in other words body’s immune system gets charged to identify and destroy the lymphoma cells.

The effectuality of the method is yet to be proved and tested, if the method proves effective, can be used in future to treat the form of cancer.

The method has been tested on just a handful of patients, in fact the investigation and tests are still going on.

Since different individuals have different antibodies, so in case anyone is diagnosed with cancer, the gene that produces the antibody is extracted and is cultured in "tobacco mosaic virus" immediately to start the treatment.

Its positive side is that the treatment with plant grown vaccine would be available at a cheaper cost and involves less risk of getting infected with any additional associated virus (animal cell grown vaccines have high risk of being embedded with unknown viruses).

Lead researcher, Dr Ronald Levy holds, "It's pretty cool technology - and it's really ironic that you would make a treatment for cancer out of tobacco. That appealed to me."

UK specialists remarkeded that the functionality and effectiveness of the vaccine developed from tobacco plant needs to be tested.

It’s a good start but the study does not acknowledge us if vaccine was able to reduce the growth of the tumors in the patients on whom it was tested. “A larger study will be needed to test the success of this plant-made antibody in fighting non-Hodgkin's lymphoma," a spokesman for Cancer Research UK commented.

Researchers, still, are uncertain about the exact influence of the plant grown vaccine in skirmishing non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, its effectiveness can be judged only after a larger research and wide-scale experiments.
