Google has teamed up with the creator of Family Guy to create two minute episodes of a new cartoon called “Seth MacFarlane’s Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy”, an animation series which will appear exclusively on the Internet.
Seth MacFarlane, creator of “Family Guy”, will uncover a cautiously guarded brand new project called “Seth MacFarlane’s Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy” in September.
Mr. MacFarlane has created a stable of new characters to star in the series.
“Cavalcade” is not only a genesis of high-profile Hollywood talent, but also has a multimillion-dollar production price tag attached to it, as of now the largest amount spent on original Internet content.
As per innovative distribution plan, a percentage of the profit made by advertising that accompanies the 50 two minute episodes to be distributed only on the internet, will go in hands of MacFarlane.
Using AdSense advertising system, Google plans to syndicate the program to thousands of Web sites that are preset to be gathering junctions for Mr. MacFarlane’s target audience, specifically young men.
Another promotional tactic, rather than placing a static ad on a Web page, Google will place a “Cavalcade” video clip.
Advertising will be integrated into the clips in diverse ways like there will be “preroll” ads, which ask viewers to sit through a TV-style commercial before getting to the video. While some advertisers may have their banner placed at the bottom of the video clip or a simple “brought to you by” note at the beginning.
If the viewers click on embedded advertisements in the video, it will help generate revenue, making the pockets of the website owner, and content creators heavier than ever before.
Google and Mr. MacFarlane said that a number of deals are among the largest ever landed by AdSense.“We feel that we have recreated the mass media,” said Kim Malone Scott, director of sales and operations for AdSense.
According to the New York Times, this deal between Google and MacFarlane is one of the largest ever for AdSense. “MacFarlane is also reportedly working with advertisers to create original advertising to run with the Cavalcade content, although neither Google nor MacFarlane would reveal any of the advertisers, saying only that the deals were among AdSense’s largest ever.”
No doubt Google’s partnership with Mr. MacFarlane is an out of the box endeavor into the distribution business but if it emerges as a successful venture, will surely send shock waves all the way through the entertainment business.
Typically for the fans of Family Guy its really hard to wait and see what MacFarlane has come up with — if it’s anything as superb as Family Guy, fans are certainly in for a treat!
