Apple introduces more Memory in iPhone, iPod Touch

Apple Inc. Tuesday unveiled pricier versions of its iPhone mobile handset and the iPod Touch media player, offering double the memory than present in previously available devices. The additional memory will lighten the consumers’ pockets by an extra $100.

Apple Inc. Tuesday unveiled pricier versions of its iPhone mobile handset and the iPod Touch media player, offering double the memory than present in previously available devices. The additional memory will lighten the consumers’ pockets by an extra $100.

The iPhone is now available in two capacities: 8GB for $399 and now 16GB for $499. Initially Apple had introduced a 4GB model as well but it had virtually no buyers ever since the company lowered the price of 8GB model.

iPod Touch will also come in a more spacious versions to store your entire library of media files. The 32 GB device will carry a price tag of $499. Two versions of different capacities are already available in the market: 16GB model for $399 and an 8GB model for $299.

Apple's iPod shipment growth was not quite strong in the last quarter, hinting that demand for the devices may be tapering off. In order to keep the consumers interested, the Company introduced new models of the iPod, including the touch-screen version, in September.

Apple, in the last quarter, posted 22 million shipments of the iPod, marking a 5 per cent rise, which was far lower than the raise in previous quarters.

Chief Executive Officer Steve Jobs said he is looking forward to sell 10 million iPhone handsets this year.

The latest, high capacity iPhone and iPod Touch are similar to their predecessors, except that they ship with the new software unveiled at Macworld, which enables the user to edit the home screen and triangulate his position using Maps.

Apple shares fell 11 cents to $131.54 at 9:39 a.m. New York time in NASDAQ Stock Market trading. The stock closed on Tuesday at $131.65 and is down more than 33 percent so far this year.
