The British singer, who has publicly battled drug addiction, was arrested on Thursday for marijuana possession. The 24-year-old singer and her husband Blake Fielder-Civil were arrested in their Bergen hotel room after being found with seven grams (a-quarter of an ounce) of cannabis, and were sent behind bars for a night by the police. According to prosecutor Lars Morten Lothe, Winehouse and her hubby were arrested at 6 p.m. Thursday and were released Friday morning after paying 500 euros ($714) fine each. The arrest came after a tip-off to the police, the prosecutors said. At the time of arrest of celebrity couple at the Radisson Hotel in Bergen there was also present an unnamed 24-year-old British man, who was also later released after paying a fine. The arrest took place after hotel personnel informed police that marijuana smoke was emanating from the couple’s room. Amy and Blake were then taken to the police station, questioned and locked in separate cells. “She spent a few hours in custody from Thursday evening to early Friday, she got a fine and then she was released,” Lothe said. "She's paid the fine, so this thing is over for us now. It is a closed case." Winehouse is due to perform at a concert in Bergen's main music auditorium, Grieghallen, Friday evening, and in Oslo on Saturday, before continuing her tour Monday in the Netherlands. Born on 14 September 1983 in London, England, Amy is best known for a string of R&B hits including "Rehab", and has been one of the U.K.'s flagship vocalists during the 2000s. She has been nominated for three awards - best female artist, video of the year and best newcomer. She also won a BRIT Award for Best British Female Artist. This year, in US, selling over 1m copies of her second album 'Back to Black'. Amy has always been an interesting fodder for British tabloids for her alleged alcohol-induced behavior. She reportedly collapsed a couple of weeks ago after ingesting a cocktail of alcohol, cocaine, Ketamine and ecstasy, and was rushed to hospital by her husband Blake. In August, Winehouse had scrapped the September tour she had planned for the U.S. and Canada. She was scheduled to begin the tour on 8 September in Toronto and was due to perform at the VMAs in Las Vegas, on Sept. 9, and before starting her string of concerts with a gig in New York on Sept. 12. Before the announcement of American tour cancellation, the singer had called off her UK summer gigs to concentrate on her health. Soon after the announcement, she along with her husband Blake had entered the Causeway house rehab centre on the Essex coast. |
