Apple’s latest: iPod touchby Samia Sehgal - September 23, 2007 - 0 comments
Apple has unveiled the most recent version of the iPod, which basically is an iPhone without the phone feature. The new iPod touch contains, according to its name, a touch-sensitive wide-screen besides multiple new features, including a web browser and wireless internet access (WLAN). The iPod Touch boasts of a 3.5-inches Multi-touch screen with 480-by-320-pixel resolution, making it amazingly comfortable to watch videos. It is a flat, sleek device that is devoid of a camera, speaker, and microphone but is quite similar to the iPhone in certain respects. For instance, when you turn it on, you are greeted by the same ‘Slide to unlock’ control, followed by the iPhone's application launcher and several other similar apps. Both have exactly the same OS and touch-based interface is at their cores. iPhone’s media-playback software has also been packed in the Touch, which means there is nothing better on the music front than the iPhone, even when the former is supposed to be retailed as primarily a media player. The major plus of iPod Touch is the Mobile Safari, which probably is the best portable Web browser around. Safari can support a number of different media types, and that should prove to be a positive feature on an iPod. It comes bundled with access to Google, Yahoo and YouTube. Apple's online music shop, the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store, has also gone mobile and users can now download songs directly onto their iPod Touch without having to get them via a computer. The Touch can easily carry a good chunk of your collection as it is available in both 8GB and 16GB capacities. It carries a price tag of $399. While demonstrating the new device in San Francisco, Apple chief Steve Jobs had said, the iPod Touch will be released in 20 countries when it hits markets in September. |
