As expected the British pop sensation Lily Allen has cancelled her US tour for the second time. Allen apparently has cancelled her eagerly awaited tour due to an American visa controversy that the singer has faced in Los Angeles earlier this month.
Besides the cancellation of American tour, the English pop star Allen has been forced to cancel her appearance at the MTV Music Awards. She was due to perform at the MTV VMAs in Las Vegas on September 9 with Kanye West and Common.
Earlier this month, the 22-year-old singer, best known for songs such as "Smile" and "LDN", had flown into Los Angeles from Australia to appear at the MTV video music awards launch in Las Vega and shoot a music video with rapper Kanye West, when she was stopped by the authorities after arriving at LA International Airport.
The US customs and immigrations officials detained the singer for five hours, locked her in a cell, strip-searched and questioned over her arrest in March for an alleged assault on a photographer in London. The officials, later, seized her O-1 working visa and barred her from entering the US.
In June, Allen was arrested and later released on police bail over the alleged assault on photographer Kevin Rush near the Wardour club in the Soho area on March 13. The incident occurred after Allen left a party she was hosting at The Wardour club in London.
A number of media reports emerged over the weekend, saying MTV has dropped the three-nippled British songstress Allen from the MTV video music awards. Some reports even quoted a source close to the awards as saying, "MTV were desperate to get Lily and they're furious with her visa situation. They've decided to pull the plug because they didn't want to leave it to the last minute to find out if she could or couldn't make it."
However, calling all these reports “rumors”, a celebrity news Web site TMZ.com claimed to have learnt that Allen has not cancelled her planned performance at MTV Video Music awards show because MTV pulled her from the show.
"She was not dropped from the awards and MTV are hugely disappointed that she will not be able to participate," a media report cited Allen’s manager as saying. MTV would maintain their invitation in case she comes out of her visa issues before September 9. “(Lily) has a standing invitation to attend the event,” he said.
Meanwhile, Allen reportedly has hired the lop law firm, Sheridans to come out of her troubles. As per media reports, she is desperate to fulfill her September tour in the US. "I am trying everything I can to sort this out. I don't like letting my fans down. It is my intention to play my American dates in September. This depends of the authorities granting me a new work visa," she was quoted as saying.
Born on May 2, 1985 in Hammersmith, Londonis, Lily Allen, birth name Lily Rose Allen, is the daughter of actor/comedian/musician Keith Allen and film producer Alison Owen. She is a BRIT Award nominated English singer-songwriter, who has cultivated a wild child image and who rose to fame on the back of her MySpace page.
Her single "Smile" (the first song she ever wrote with Future Cut) reached numero uno position in July 2006 on the UK singles charts. In September 2006, "Smile" was made available onto the United States version of the Apple Inc.'s iTunes Music Store.
During her concert in early April in San Diego, California Lily had launched a drunken rant against US President George Bush. She also branded George Bush an a******. Besides calling Texans “backward,” the UK singer on the NME stage at SXSW told the music weekly to go away, saying “Fuck off you cunts.”
Always jam-packed in the quagmire of controversies around, stirred more controversy, when New Musical Express (better known as the NME) asked Allen how she would celebrate if her single got to Number 1 in the UK charts, and she responded "gak" (a slang term for cocaine). Although, she immediately said that she was joking, but the "gak" remark was widely quoted in the tabloid press.
Allen is currently dating DJ Seb Chew, an A&R manager at Polydor. Before Chew, she dated DJ Lester Lloyd, who inspired the singer's number one single Smile, for 18 months when she was 17. She broke her relationship with Lester after discovering he sold intimate details of their relationship to the media.
you guys are ignorant of the u.s. customs. There are hundreds of poor Australians, Brits and new Zealanders that get held by u.s. customs for hours to even days for no apparent reason, I have had it happen to some of my Aussie friends, and i guess it happens enough that many Aussies and NZ people are deciding not to holiday or travel to the u.s.
