Britney Spears' cousin and re-hired personal assistant, Alli Sims was served legal papers early Sunday concerning the ongoing custody battle between Spears and her ex-husband, Kevin Federline.

Sims was reportedly served with the legal papers after Kevin urged the court to call on the singer's own cousin to give evidence in court during his fight for the custody of the two sons he fathered with crumbling pop princess Britney Spears.

Sims was leaving a party at a private home in the Hollywood Hills when she was served a summons to give a deposition in the couple's upcoming custody battle. Legal documents were served by Aaron Cohen, owner of IMS-Security, a renowned Hollywood security firm.

However, Sims was "absolutely angry" by the intrusion, initiated by Mark Vincent Kaplan, the lawyer representing Kevin. People magazine cited an unnamed source as saying, "Alli was really shocked and covered her face. She was really distraught and said 'Oh my God.' "

On the other hand, Kaplan said Sims had been served because she was "believed to have relevant information", and the legal documents call for Sims to testify about ‘Toxic’ singer’s parenting skills and reveal about the spears' drinking and partying habits.

Kevin filed for primary custody of his sons on August 8, and hoping to be awarded physical custody of his two sons because of his ex-wife Spears’ erratic behavior. "Kevin would like to have as much custody as he could because he feels that the children would benefit from that."

Sims, who once left Britney’s side to launch her own pop-career, always had kind words for the singer, who is seeking legal and physical custody of her two sons, 23-month-old Sean Preston and 11-month-old Jayden James.

Sims recently defended Britney, calling her a ‘great’ mother. She said: "She's a wonderful mom and she is so hands-on. Britney loves those babies to death. And they adore her."

Spears and Federline agreed to share 50-50 custody of their two sons when their divorce was finalized late last month.

Britney Spears, the driving force behind the return of teen pop in the late '90s, filed divorce from her hubby in November, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for ending her two-year marriage to K-Fed. In her divorce petition, Britney sought custody of the children, with visitation rights for Federline. Acting promptly, Federline counter-filed court papers the following day seeking sole custody of their boys.

After departing from Federline, Britney has been seen partying hard with Paris Hilton, and her appearance has been increasingly sloppy. The popstar, who has always been interesting fodder for media wags, with her strange behavior dragged media attentions many a times.

She was also criticized for her carelessness towards her children. Several photographs published showed Spears driving her SUV in Malibu, California with her then 4-month-old son Sean Preston perched on her lap rather than strapped into a car seat in the back seat, and another time almost dropping him.

In February, Britney left her fans in shock and prompted fears over her mental health by wildly shaving-off her locks. She was also pictured crazily attacking a photographer's car with an umbrella when Kevin refused to open the door and let her into his house.

After bout of bizarre behavior, the troubled pop star checked into the Promises treatment center in Malibu, California. Even, during her nearly one-month stay at the Promises Clinic, the “Oops!” girl tried to take her own life by hanging herself. According to a UK tabloid, the falling pop star tried to hang herself with a bedsheet after an erratic behavior, and after the suicide attempt asked Kevin on phone to father another child with her.
