Eddie Murphy ‘Admits’ to Paternity

This one is still not making complete sense. A paternity test establishes you as the father of a certain child. You maintain total silence about this until the mother files suit in court. And then you ‘admit’ to fathering the baby? So what was the paternity test all about? Something exciting to do on a boring day?

Incredibly, this is the situation Hollywood star Eddie Murphy finds himself in. After refusing to make any comment about his identity being established as the father of Spice Girl Melanie Brown’s baby daughter, he finally admitted to the fact. He made the admission only after Mel B approached a Superior Court with a petition demanding that Eddie be legally established as the father.

Arnold Robinson, Eddie’s publicist, made the statement acknowledging paternity to Access Hollywood. He said Eddie had always honored his responsibilities as a father, and would continue to do so in the future too. The statement further said Eddie had dated Scary Spice Mel B four a brief period, and that during that time they never planned on having a baby.

Mel B, on the other hand, had something totally different to say. She said she and Eddie had dated for a period of four months, and both of them had wanted to have a baby. She has always said, even before the paternity test, that Eddie was the father. She went so far as to have him listed as the biological father in the baby’s birth certificate.

Eddie had initially sought to quell talk of his being the father of the baby, Angel. He had gone on record as saying it was not right to label him the father as the two of them were no longer a couple and it could not be a guaranteed thing that he was the father.

Eddie Murphy was earlier married to Nicole Mitchell Murphy, and has had five children with her. That marriage came to an end last year. Mel B, on the other hand, has an 8-year old daughter from her previous marriage to Jimmy Gulag, a dancer.

After Eddie split with Brown, he hooked up with Tracy Edmonds, a film producer. His dating Tracy could be one reason why he was not willing to accept the baby’s paternity. It must be a funny feeling, to admit something after persistently denying it for months.

In all this, baby Angel Iris remains blissfully unaware of the chaos around her.
