JFK Airport terror probe widensby MT Bureau - June 10, 2007 - 0 comments
New York -- Investigators following up the failed plot to attack New York's JFK Airport are looking into the possibility there may be more suspects overseas. Authorities have four men in custody, but one law enforcement official says those four are just a piece of the terrorist puzzle -- and other suspects overseas are being investigated, WABC-TV reported Saturday. The official said if the suspects in custody had contacted the right people, their alleged plan could have been carried out in short order, the New York TV station said. WNYC-New York also reported a law enforcement official said the suspects are "just a piece of it" and others are being targeted overseas. David Robinson, the U.S. ambassador to Guyana, said Friday FBI agents will travel next week to the nation to "follow up investigations." Authorities say the suspects had collected information about the airport with the intention of peddling it to people with the ability to follow through with their plan to blow up a jet fuel pipeline, causing "greater destruction than the Sept. 11 attacks," the official said. Authorities called the suspects "al-Qaida wannabes." Some experts have expressed doubts their plan would have achieved the destruction they allegedly had in mind. © Copyright 2007 United Press International Post new comment |
