'Robot Chicken' does 'Star Wars' spoofby MT Bureau - June 4, 2007 - 1 comments
" title="'Robot Chicken' does 'Star Wars' spoof" /> Los Angeles -- George Lucas has given his OK for "Robot Chicken," created by Seth Green and Matthew Senreich for Cartoon Network, to do a 30-minute "Star Wars" special. Lucas gave his approval after recently seeing a parody clip Green and Senreich already aired in which Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader talk on the phone after the Death Star is destroyed, The New York Times reported Sunday. "I honestly have no idea why they're letting us do this," Green said about the episode, which airs June 17. "It's one of those things where we didn't ask a lot of questions." Their proposal was presented to Lucasfilm executives in May 2006, but the show has been using gags taken from the "Star Wars" franchise since 2005. Green showed off his knowledge about the affect of "Star Wars" on pop culture, even though he was only three when it originally aired in 1977. "It was an adventure story that unified kids and adults alike," said Green. "Not only that -- because of all the promotional tie-ins -- its complete saturation of the marketplace with toys and bed sheets and lunchboxes and stationery, everybody had something 'Star Wars' at the time." Is George Lucas the force? I hope they don't kill R2-D2, since R2 needs to tell the whole story in the future.
