Troubled "party girl" Lohan enters rehab

The American pop singer and actress, Lindsay Lohan on Monday voluntarily checked into Malibu's Promises centre for "intensive" treatment, apparently trying to escape from her recent DUI charges.

The "Mean Girls" star had crashed her 2005 Mercedes SL-65 on Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles in the early hours on Saturday morning, when she was driving home in her luxury car, along with two other people, after partying at Los Angeles nightclub Les Deux with friends.

Police officers confirmed that they found a "useable amount” of a drug tentatively identified as cocaine at the accident scene.

Lohan, who had got minor chest injuries in the crash, was driven in another car not involved in the crash to Century City Hospital for treatment. Police tracked the injured star to the hospital, and there placed her under arrest.

Hollywood actress was issued a DUI summons Saturday after allegedly smashing her luxury convertible in Beverly Hills, California.

Lohan entered Promises rehab centre, the same facility where troubled pop star Britney Spears also decided to battle her drug addiction, under the watchful eye of her lawyer, Blair Berk, the celebrity news Web site TMZ has confirmed.

Lawyer Berk was spotted by TMZ driving Lohan to the Promises rehab clinic.

"Lindsay admitted herself to an intensive medical rehabilitation facility on Memorial Day. Because this is a medical matter, it is our hope that the press will appreciate the seriousness of the situation and respect the privacy of Lindsay as well as the other patients receiving treatment at the facility. There will be no other official comments regarding this issue," a representative for the actress said.

Lohan, who is also portrayed as a "party girl" is not going to the rehab for the first time, rather this year in January the actress entered the Wonderland rehabilitation centre in Los Angeles after allegedly collapsing at a party after the Golden Globes award ceremony.

The report was confirmed by her publicist Leslie Sloane Zelnick, saying the Bobby actress has checked into a rehab facility in Hollywood, the exclusive Wonderland Center.

This is not the first time Lohan was charged for DUI instead the actress has a history of alcohol-related incidents. Earlier this month, Lohan was sued by a photographer Giovanni Arnold who alleged Lohan was driving the car that struck and injured him in New York in March.

In the lawsuit, filed in New York State Supreme Court, the photographer said the defendants (Lohan and her mother Dina Lohan) were "negligent, careless and reckless" with the vehicle, causing him personal injury and economic loss.

Born on July 2, 1986 in the Bronx and grew up in Merrick and Cold Spring Harbor on Long Island in New York, Lohan came into limelight with her breakout role as a leading actress in 2004's “Mean Girls”.

Lohan’s three car accident’s in 2005 made headlines. That year Lohan collided with a minivan when she made a U-turn as the van, carrying paparazzi, followed her from a Los Angeles restaurant for a photograph.

Later, in October, 2005, Lohan and a passenger received minor injuries when her convertible hit a van in West Hollywood. However the police ruled that the van's driver, who also received minor injuries, was at fault, by making an illegal U-turn.

The teen queen spent about two days in a hospital in Miami, Florida, after suffering a serious asthma attack in January 2006. While shooting for ‘Georgia Rule’ in July 2006, Lohan complained for dehydration and was rushed to the hospital. In January 2007, Lohan had an operation to remove her appendix.

The New York Fashion week party at the Milk Studios in September 2006 also brought ill luck to Lindsay, who injured herself while partying with friends.

Lohan stepped in the entertainment industry very early in life. She started as a child fashion model for magazine ads and television commercials. When she was 10, she began her acting career in a soap opera. However, her career mounted when she played a double role in Disney's 1998 remake of the 'Parent Trap'.

Lohan displaced Eva Longoria as the hottest woman on Maxim magazine's Hot 100 list.
