'House' role brings OBE home for Laurie

London -- British actor Hugh Laurie had to find success in the U.S. TV medical drama "House" to garner an Order of the British Empire award in his home country.

Laurie, who was bestowed his OBE by Queen Elizabeth II Wednesday at Buckingham Palace, has won a Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild and Emmy for his role as brilliant-but-boorish Dr. Gregory House in "House," The London Paper reported Wednesday.

Laurie has a 20-year history of success on British television, including "A Bit of Fry and Laurie," "Blackadder" and "Jeeves and Wooster." He also has starred on the big screen, with roles in "Peter's Friends," "Sense and Sensibility" and "Stuart Little."
