Oil price slips ahead of inventory report
New York -- New York crude oil prices fell to less than $66 a barrel Tuesday, a day ahead of a U.S. Energy Department report on U.S. gasoline inventories.
Light, sweet crude for June delivery declined 34 cents to $65.93 a barrel in mid-morning trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
The June oil contract was set to expire at the close of trading Tuesday. The Energy Department planned to release its report on domestic gasoline inventories Wednesday.
June natural gas prices rose 1 cent to $7.923 per 1,000 cubic feet. June heating oil slipped 0.67 cents to $1.9442 a gallon.
Reformulated gasoline blendstock for oxygen blending fell 0.63 cents to $2.395 a gallon.
AAA said Tuesday the average U.S. retail regular unleaded gasoline price was a record $3.209 a gallon, up 1.3 cents from Monday's record $3.196 a gallon.
