Federer wins Hamburg quarterfinal

Hamburg, Germany -- Top-seeded Roger Federer Friday beat David Ferrer, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, in the quarterfinals of the German Masters in Hamburg.

The world's top-ranked player and 10-time Grand Slam winner ran is career record against Ferrer to 7-0 with his 505th career victory. He broke Ferrer six times, had eight service aces, one double fault, and out-pointed his opponent, 90-75.

Ferrer broke Federer four times in the second set.

In Friday's other quarterfinal matches, No. 2 seed Rafael Nadal beat fifth-seeded Fernando Gonzalez, 6-4, 6-4, extending his clay-court winning streak to 80 matches, former world No. 1 Carlos Moya topped fourth-seeded Novak Djokovic 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 7-5, while 16th-seeded Lleyton Hewitt downed Nicolas Almagro 6-3, 6-4.

In Saturday's semifinals, Federer plays Moya, and Nadal battles Hewitt.
