" title="Rap song not music to parent's ears"/> Montreal, Ontario -- A concerned parent in the Canadian province of Ontario was outraged recently when she heard the pro-sovereignty rap song her son was set to sing at school. Caroline Apps said that while she had heard her 11-year-old son repeatedly singing the rap song "Pour Mon Pays 2" in preparation for a school event, the song was not offensive until she read its alleged pro-sovereignty lyrics, the Montreal Gazette said Thursday. "I was absolutely disgusted," she said. "My problem was that (my son) wasn't really cognizant of what he was singing." She said the song by rapper Sir Pathetik not only supports the controversial political ideology but also contains racist messages. Apps warned school officials of the song its sixth graders planned to sing at their graduation. The Gazette said Apps' complaints got the attention of school officials, who read the song's lyrics and promptly removed it from the ceremony's agenda. Copyright 2007 by United Press International. |
