American Idol: No more Kisses for LaKisha Jonesby Samia Sehgal - May 11, 2007 - 6 comments
LaKisha Jones had to bid adieu to the sets of ‘American Idol’ as she was voted off the popular reality show on Wednesday. Viewers casted more than 45 million votes on the show's sixth season to choose their favorite contestants, and Jones failed to be a magnet. She was initially being considered a final two contestant. Jones had proved to be talented singer quite early in the show and had, on occasions been brilliant but one rough night ended her dream run.

On the Bee Gees-themed episodes where the singers were mentored by the legendary Barry Gibb, LaKisha sang "Stayin' Alive" and "Run to Me". Earlier she had been singing songs recorded by previous American Idol winners – “Jesus Take the Wheel” by Carrie Underwood and Fantasia’s “I Believe”, which, some believe, was not a wise decision. A week ago, Simon Cowell, a judge at the show was so impressed with her performance that he announced on the live telecast that her singing made him want to kiss her and then went ahead and kissed her. But for American Idol contestants it is considered important to deliver excellent performances time and again but Jones just could not repeat it. This time Cowell shrugged of her performance, saying, "No kiss tonight, baby." Blake Lewis, the last remaining male singer, who was in the bottom two with Jones survived the elimination and will go on to compete with Jordin Sparks and Melinda Doolittle for the big prize on the finale to be aired on May 23. Jones, 27, the single mom of a young child, earlier appeared to be the main competition for Melinda Doolittle who was expected to make it to the finals. But with the progress of the show, things seemed to get worse for Jones and it was not surprising that one of the strongest contenders of the title might have to leave soon. Probably Melinda’s choice of songs and her ability to depict that she could sing in a variety of genres worked in her favor while Jones on the other hand let her fans slip as the split of votes got against her. I think Blake will go next week. I'm hoping Jordin will win, but Melinda has been consistent too...I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Post new comment |

hi Samia sehgal . it was a delight to read:)American Idol returns for a sixth season and promises to be the biggest season to date. It all begins January 16, 2007 with a double premiere. Idolites can expect this season to began with the normal highs and lows as Paul, Randy, and Simon weed through grueling days trying to find the scattered performers ( a term used loosely) that actually have talent.
