Paris ready to 'face the consequences'

Los Angeles -- Socialite-heiress Paris Hilton said Wednesday she is ready to "face the consequences" for her violating her probation in a Los Angeles DUI case.

"I absolutely realize how serious driving under the influence is. I could not live with myself if anyone was injured or killed while I was driving while impaired," she said in a statement read by her attorney. "Clearly, no one should -- no matter how slightly. I am ready to face the consequences of violating probation."

A judge last week sentenced the hotel heiress to 45 days in jail for violating her probation by driving without a license.

Hilton said she did not expect to be treated better than anyone else who violated probation, People magazine said Wednesday.

"However, my hope is that I will not be treated worse," she said in the statement.

Her fans' petition asking California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to pardon her likely won't have an effect. The governor has jurisdiction only in felony cases and only after time served.

Legal experts said Hilton had little chance of winning an appeal, but an appeal could delay her surrender date of June 5. However, if she behaves, she may be get an early release due to jail overcrowding policies.
