" title="Toyota taking the lead in automobile industry"/> Toyota announced world wide sales revenue of $2.35 million by selling 90,000 vehicles in the first quarter of the year 2007. This whooping figure has made Toyota the leading manufacturer of cars and trucks all over the world. Toyota outshined General Motors with this outstanding sales record. General Motors gave a figure of $2.6 million during the first three months of this year, thus making Toyota a world leader in the automobile industry. It is a monumental success for Toyota, which managed to break the dominance of General Motors since 1931, when, General Motors surpassed Ford Motors in terms of sales and popularity, and never looked back again. Toyota, a Japanese automobile manufacturing company, established in the 1970’s has always branded itself as reliable and technologically superior. Toyota claimed the biggest market share in United States and Europe, with General Motors struggling behind. "We're focused on providing the best cars and trucks for our customers all around the world," said John McDonald, a GM spokesman in Detroit. "We're not focused on a race." Both Toyota and General Motors, reported record sales in the first three months, but Toyota rose a bit higher and therefore, taking the lead in this race by exceeding the 99 year old General Motors in global sales. This huge number of 90,000 vehicles sold comes from the sales of Lexus luxury brands and the youth oriented Scion badge, as well as from vehicle units of Hino Motors Ltd and Diahatsu Motor Co. Toyota gained an increase of 9 percent in sales revenue as compared to the 3 percent of General Motors. "We look at the results as simply a reflection of how our products are viewed favorably around the world," said Paul Nolasco, a company spokesman in Tokyo. "We don't just make them and push them out the door - we have a 'pull' system and we build them when they are ordered." Toyota has always offered people fuel efficient vehicles, keeping in view the spending power of a common man, whereas, GM had always been producing expensive, fuel consuming vehicles. Toyota has managed to lead the industry in every aspect; however, sales volume remains the most important measurement of success in the car manufacturing industry. |
