The global concert series, an initiative by the former U.S Vice president Al Gore planned in the beginning of February 2007 is to begin in Sydney, Australia, on the 7th of July. This initiative is a part of the "Save Our Selves" campaign, which has been started to raise awareness and educate people of the changing global climate and its consequences among people. Sydney, Australia’s capital city, is to host one of a series of the worldwide concerts on the 7th of July. This whole day event will be featuring the best and top most names in the field of entertainment, the Australian concert will feature local talent mostly. More than 100 entertainers are scheduled to perform worldwide which include Bon Jovi, Foo Fighters, Snoop Dogg, Snow Patrol, Bloc Party, the Black Eyed Peas, Melissa Etheridge, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Red Hot Chilli, Fall Out Boy and a lot more. All the top artists have shown keen interest in being a part of this global initiative. These concerts will last for four to eight hours; and two to three shows will be running simultaneously at any given time of the day during the 24hour live show. This series of “Live Earth” concerts will be held in all major cities across the continent namely New York, Brazil, Johannesburg, Sydney, Japan, London, and Rio de Janeiro. An event in Antarctica is also planned and promised by the organizers. These concerts are produced by the award winning Kevin Wall, who also produced the eight live concerts in 2005, which were a part of the campaign to highlight global poverty issues. This fund raising event will help in forming the foundation to fight the reasons for global climate change. The proceeds from this event will help in educating people about the climate change issues and their reasons. Individuals, corporations and governments, all will have to come together to take decisive actions against factors which are causing global warming. These concerts are being produced on the same model as earlier held live shows back in the 1980’s and then in 2005, which were also a part of educational endeavors regarding global poverty issues and the African famine relief. These concerts were able to raise tremendous funds which later on helped eliminate debts of poor nations. |
