Heather Mills became an epitome for people when she made her debut in a US television’s dancing reality show ‘Dancing with the stars’, despite having one prosthetic leg. The show was aired this Monday.

Mills, 39, became the first ever contestant with a prosthetic leg to compete in the show “Dancing With The Stars”. She said she joined this contest to prove the world that you can overcome any disability.

In the show, Mills was wearing a pink and crème sequined dress. She danced foxtrot with a professional dancer Jonathan Roberts and got a standing ovation from the crowd as well as from the judges.

Len Goodman, one of the three judges said, “There was far more right about that routine than wrong. I think you are an inspiration to people to get out and dance”. Due to the criticism of her stiff upper body, Mills and her partner managed to score 18 points out of a total of 30.

Mills was among the 11 pairs in the show. After her performance she said, “I’m just glad I didn’t fall over. I thought I would be lowest so I’m pleased”.

Heather Mills was born in Aldershot, Hampshire, England. Her early career was a glamor model. She was in the limelight because of her recent divorce with her husband, former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney. The couple announced their separation on May 2006 just prior to Sir Paul’s 64th birthday.

In August 1993, she was hit by a police motorcycle while crossing the road near London's Kensington Palace; her injuries included crushed ribs and a punctured lung. She needed a metal plate put into her pelvis and also the amputation of her left leg below the knee.

She is currently a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations and an activist for the Adopt-a-Minefield program. She has also been an active member of awareness campaigns against seal hunting and trading of dog fur.

After her separation from Sir Paul McCartney, in March 2007, Heather said, "I will never get over it. I will always love Paul. He is the father of my child but I just have to move on and deal with it and there is nothing I can do," she told BBC News 24 television. "I have never spoken badly about my husband. I never will -- he is the father of my child," She also insisted that the media's attitude to her was biased. "It's a big powerful group of people behind this whole campaign against me," she said, all I want is balanced coverage, "not just the one sided, 'let's crucify and vilify Heather'".
