After behaving wildly last month, the falling pop star Britney Spears has sparked fresh fears about her mental health by reportedly trying to commit suicide in a rehabilitation clinic, her second attempt in the past ten days, giving clear indications that the star is mentally unstable.
If the reports of a British newspaper, News of the World, which revealed that the pop star tried to take her own life by hanging herself, are true then it seems like the “Oops!” girl is having a tough time in reconciling with her drug addiction in rehab, and with her intense feelings of suffering as well.
According to the UK tabloid, the former pop star, who entered the rehab at the Promises Clinic in Malibu, California for undisclosed reasons, tried to hang herself with a bedsheet after an erratic behavior, and after the suicide attempt asked her ex-husband Kevin Federline on phone to father another child with her.
The American pop singer, dancer, actress, author and songwriter, who had been the driving force behind the return of teen pop in the late '90s, terrified staff by writing the devil's number "666" on her bald head and then running around the rehab centre screaming, "I am the anti-christ!"
"Later that night she tried to kill herself," the UK report said. "She attached a sheet to a light and tied it around her neck. Paramedics were called, but luckily she was unhurt."
The report cited a friend claiming, "The clinic people just didn't know what to do."
After the suicide attempt, Spears called Federline on the phone and was begging not only for reconciliation but also to have another baby with her. "Britney has realized what a rock Kevin has been to her, and how out of control she has acted recently," News of the World quoted a source at the clinic saying. "She just wants to be with him again, and thinks having another baby will seal their marriage."
"She has been talking to Kevin every night for hours on the phone, telling him she still loves him," the source told the British tabloid.
Kevin Federline, who has two children with Spears, 5-month-old Jayden James and 17-month-old Sean Preston, showed his concerns about Spears who split from him in November after two years of marriage, and spotted several times visiting Spears in rehab Clinic. He was reportedly taken their two adorable sons to see their mother in rehab.
After departing from Federline, Britney has been seen partying hard with Paris Hilton, and her appearance has been increasingly sloppy. The popstar, who has always been interesting fodder for media wags, with her strange behavior dragged media attentions so many times.
Late last month, the 25-year-old pop star had shocked fans and prompted fears over her mental health by wildly shaving-off her locks at Esther's Haircutting Studio in the Tarzana district of Los Angeles. She was pictured last week crazily attacking a photographer's car with an umbrella when Kevin refused to open the door and let her into his house.
Reports surfaced earlier this month that Britney’s erratic behavior is due to her addiction to alcohol and drugs. To baffle her addiction, she checked herself into a rehab centre in the Caribbean two weeks ago. But she left after just 24 hours.
Spears, born Britney Jean Spears in McComb, Mississippi, is best known for her studio albums, music videos, and songs such as "...Baby One More Time", "Oops!...I Did It Again" and "Toxic".
Currently the singer in working on her fifth studio album which is due for release in 2007.
She has been criticized for her strange acts ranging from her kiss with Madonna at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards to posing nude for the August 2006 cover of Harper's Bazar. She has also been pictured climbing out of cabs without wearing underwear while out partying with socialite Hilton.
The life-size sculpture of a naked and very pregnant Britney Spears kneeling on a bearskin rug as she gives birth has also attracted considerable media attention.
She was also criticized for her carelessness towards her children. Several photographs published showed Spears driving her sport utility vehicle (SUV) in Malibu, California with her 4-month-old son Sean Preston perched on her lap rather than strapped into a car seat in the back seat, and another time almost dropping him.

Millions of John Dopes like me have ruined their lives with drug abuse and, short of displaying out-of-control behavior that forces the intervention of society, we are left to fend for ourselves. Get the help, Brit. Wasting the one life we get (thru drug abuse) is just an awful way to exist. I'm deeply saddened about so many negative comments about a lady who is in deep mental problems that need our prayers and supports. I don't listen to her music but concern about her health and her children. Let us pray for her to stay in rehab and hopes that she get better. She through her music has blessed and inspired so many young people and it's our duty to pray for her now that she needed our supports. Also, the media should leave her alone to recover. I want to correct those who are asserting that Brittney's actions are based on drug abuse. All drug abuse (as well as endless partying, unhealthy personal behaviors, etc.) are attempts to mask deep, hidden pain. The source of that pain is rarely obvious. That's why therapy exists...to unearth the pain and (hopefully) to help the sufferer to face it and deal with it.
Does this suggest that the drugs are CAUSING her behavior? No, quite the opposite! The drug use is a SYMPTOM of her behavior. The roots of her behavior existed long before the drug use.
Modern history is replete with examples of people who have achieved fame and fortune, only to find that it doesn't make them happy. It doesn't make their pain go away. In most cases, the pain motivated them to drive themselves toward success, so the discovery that the success doesn't mask the pain is a bit of a shock after the fame and fortune are achieved. As an example, look at how many popular songs are based on themes of pain, dysfunction, "my baby done me wrong," etc.
This is why so many people who achieve fame and fortune end up drugging themselves. Brittney is the latest victim of this pattern.
The saddest thing is that her "friends" are the ones from whom the media is getting their information. Without her "friends" the media would never have their stories about what she's going through in rehab with which they can plaster the tabloids. With "friends" like that, who needs enemies? If they were really her friends, they'd be much more interested in giving her direct, private support toward facing the roots of her pain and in protecting her privacy from snoopy gossip-mongers.

Psychological treatment
Psychological treatment won't help if she’s got acid or PCP in her. I have an uncle who’s been suffering from that crap ever since Vietnam. He’s been getting plenty of psychological treatment but some things there are just no cures for.

It is more common than one would imagine and twice as likely if the woman has had more than one child in the span of two years...Perhaps a bit of medication and compassion is warrented wither we are talking about a pop star or a normal new mother going through post-pardum issues.

Spears is Already in Enough Distress
I think the media, which includes the author of this article, should cut Britney Spears some slack. It is clear to see that Spears is very ill and needs help. It is no commodity or laughing matter. I do not see the entertainment in someone elses woes. I bet money that people would not make this much commotion over someone who is not famous, in fact, they would would be supporting that person instead of making their recoverery harder.

britney needs to be in a psychological treatment facility, not drugs and alcohol. people don't seem to understand that the reason many people become addicted to drugs and alcohol is because they are trying to self-medicate their psychological problems away. she may be suffering from sever anxiety or depression. i think either of those, if severe enough, can lead to psychotic breaks, which it sounds like she may be experiencing...

Britney needs professional help. If she is coming off drugs and alcohol, its best to go through the process with professionals around.
She will still need to work a program of recovery the rest of her life though, but that isn't a prison sentence, it's a healthy choice.
Her erratic behavior and suicidal thoughts sound like someone having typical withdrawals from drugs or opiates. She will foolish when this is over but at least grateful. I wish her the best. Its hard growing up in public.

I think it’s very likely that Paris Hilton slipped something in one of Britney’s drinks. The way she’s acting is like somebody who’s taken a large dosage of PCP or acid. It’s not uncommon; I have seen reactions exactly like hers happen more than once. If true it’s really sad that anyone would do this, but Paris being the attention clown she is; is just stupid & heartless enough to do such a thing.
