Sony on Tuesday announced an array of new cameras, including thin Cyber-shot T-series digital cameras aimed at fashion conscious customers and W-Series line of digital cameras, intended for photo-viewing at home, enabling users to experience the whole new digital photo world.

In its new Cyber-shot W-series cameras, Sony put the DSC-W200 camera, the most compact 12-megapixel camera in the industry at the top of the line, followed by the 8-megapixel DSC-W90 unit and the 7.2-megapixel DSC-W80 model.

These new Cyber-shot W-series cameras that compliment Sony’s existing W-Series range of digital cameras offer direct connection to a High-Definition TV (HDTV), which is ideal for integrating full 1080 HD photo-viewing at home.

“As HDTV becomes more pervasive in American households, it is only natural to want to view all of your content in high definition, including photos”, said Phil Lubell, director for digital cameras at Sony Electronics. "Our new cameras support a shift in customer behavior - from viewing digital photos on a PC to having a full entertainment experience in the living room.”

Wrapped in sleek metal bodies, all new W-series cameras sport Carl Zeiss 3x optical zoom lenses; traditional, eye-level viewfinders; and large, 2.5-inch LCD screens.

All of the new models also incorporate selectable in-camera editing functions that help save time which user spends in post-editing at the computer. Powered by the Bionz processing engine, these cameras feature a built-in slide show function. Images can be play back with pans, fades and wipe transitions set to your choice of music clips. Red-eye correction and retouching effects are other helpful in-camera functions.

The silver colored W200 camera can shoot up to 270 shots, the W90 camera that will come in black and silver up to 350 shots and the W80 model that will don the Pink white, black and silver colors can shoot up to 270 shots.

The W200 camera will ship in May for about $400, the W90 unit will be available in March for about $300 and the W80 model will hit stores in March for about $250. Prices in the UK are yet to confirm by Sony.

With the launch of the new line of thin Cyber-shot T-series digital cameras with new stylish designs, and colors, Sony is trying to lure and win the hearts of its fashion conscious shopper.

The new T-series digital range includes 8-megapixel DSC-T100 camera featuring the most powerful zoom and largest LCD screen in Sony’s T-series and the 8-megapixel DSC-T20 camera incorporating a Carl Zeiss 3x optical zoom lens and a 2.5-inch LCD screen.

With its Carl Zeiss 5x optical zoom lens and 3-inch LCD screen, the DSC-T100 camera promises of up to 380 shots in full charge and will don red, black and silver colors, while the 8-megapixel DSC-T20 camera can shoot up to 340 shots and will hit the market in pink, white, black and silver.

“There’s a generation of style-conscious, tech-savvy people who want the brands and products in their lives to reflect who they are”, said Lubell. “Our new T-series cameras can give these customers the form factor and advanced technologies they’re looking for.”

Besides the Red-eye correction and dynamic range optimization, the cameras also include three accessory options for high-definition photo viewing.

The new T-series range is compatible with the Sony VMC-MHC1 HD component cable for simple connection to an HDTV set. A set of bundled component cable and a remote commander is provided to make them connected to the new Sony CSS-HD1 high-definition Cyber-shot Station.

The T100 camera is likely to ship in March for about $400, and the T20 will be available in April for about $330 in the US. The range will be available to pre-order, beginning February 28.
