Dancing with the stars has a special attraction this year. Amongst its dazzling ‘stars’, will be Heather Mills, who will participate in the show, as announced by the ABC network on Wednesday.
‘Dancing with the stars’ is the U.S. version of the BBC T.V. show, ‘Strictly Come Dancing’. The ABC television network has announced the return of the show with a two-hour premiere on Monday, March 19. Since its debut in 2005, the show has established itself as the second-most watched program on television. Its audience among young adults has been increasing every year. The season finale of the show in November 2006, clocked an audience of 27.7 million viewers, achieving the status of being the series’ most watched telecast ever, as claimed by ABC.
The show also features singer Joey Fatone, actor Vincent Pastore, Laila Ali, and country singer Billy Ray Cyrus. While Joey Fatone is an ex-member of the pop group N’Sync, Pastore is famous for acting in the show ‘The Sopranos’. Cyrus has been seen in Disney Channel’s series Hannah Montana, after he delivered the single hit ‘Achy Breaky Heart’. Also featuring on the show are basketball legend Clyde Drexler and Olympic champion Apolo Anton Ohno. Paulina Porizkova & Shandi Finnessey-both models, Ian Ziering-Beverly Hills star, and TV host Leeza Gibbons will also compete on the show.
Jerry Springer announced the list of participants on ABC’s ‘Good Morning America’. Springer, himself, was also a participant on the show last season. The participants will be subjected to viewer voting procedures, the worst dancer being voted off each week. The list of dances to be mastered is pretty formidable itself- The Cha Cha, The Rumba, The Samba, The Foxtrot, The Viennese Waltz are a few.
Heather Mills, Sir Paul McCartney’s estranged wife, will form a pair with professional dancer Jonathon Roberts. Mills has been much talked about in the media, both for good and bad reasons. Her highly publicized divorce and instances of impersonation are amongst the wrong reasons. The correct reasons include her acts of social activism. Mills is currently a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations and an activist for the Adopt-a-Minefield program. She has also been an active member of awareness campaigns against seal hunting and trading of dog fur.
Mills lost a leg after an accident in 1993, when she was hit by a police motorcycle in London. Since then, she uses a prosthetic leg, and will be the first participant on the dance show who will partake in all acts with a prosthetic leg. As Springer put it, ‘she may be a sentimental favorite’. Phil Hall, spokesperson for Mills states that,’ she skis with an artificial limb and runs and cycles with an artificial limb and this is just the latest of those many challenges’.
Give up, Heather. You've made a laughing stock of yourself. YOU are the cartoon character. Enough is enough indeed
