Academy Award winning actress Nicole Kidman and seven others sustained minor injuries on a Los Angeles film set when her jaguar crashed into a lamppost on early Thursday while shooting for the science fiction thriller ‘The Invasion’.

Kidman, who was behind the steering wheel of the car hired for the shoot, was rushed to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and then released a short time later. The police said that paramedics were called to examine Kidman for injuries before she was taken to the hospital.

Los Angeles Police spokeswoman Karen Smith said that the seven others were also rushed to local hospitals after the crash, but none was injured seriously.

The studio behind the production of the movie Warner Bros confirmed that Kidman was rushed to the hospital immediately. They also informed that the shooting of the movie was resumed late Thursday.

"No other actors were involved in the scene at the time of the incident," Warner Bros. said in a written statement.

"Two additional crew members sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision," Warner Bros. said. "The production took the appropriate steps following the incident to ensure the safety of cast and crew."

The police informed that the camera carriage towed the jaguar after it skidded while taking a corner and caused it to hit a pole on West Sixth Street.

Smith informed that the police will conduct a routine investigation of the accident, but she could not confirm a report by US weekly magazine that held that Kidman's car was being towed by a rig at about 45 miles per hour, with zombie-like characters hanging off the hood, at the time of the crash.

Kidman embarked on the journey of stardom very early in life. Her first stint with films came when she was just fifteen, and since then, there has been no looking back.

In 1983, she appeared in the Pat Wilson music video for the song ‘Bop Girl’. By the end of the year, she had grabbed a supporting role for the television series ‘Five Mile Creek’ and four other films.

Her 1995 film ‘To Die For’ fetched her laurels and she bagged the Golden Globe Award and five other best actress awards for portraying the role of Suzanne Stone Maretto.

She received an Academy Award nomination for the 2001 film ‘Moulin Rogue’. Her role as Virginia Woolf in ‘The Hours’ bagged her the Academy Award for the best actress, a Golden Globe Award, a BAFTA, and numerous other critic awards.

Because of her unmatched success in the film industry, Kidman became the face of Chanel No. 5 perfume brand. Her acting skills also made her the highest paid actress in 2006.

As of now, Kidman has at least five films under her belt over the next two years.

In ‘The invasion’, Kidman stars opposite Daniel Craig, essaying the role of a psychiatrist working to solve a mysterious epidemic.
