Jen and Johnny Bag People’s Choice Awards

The talented twosome, Johnny Depp and Jennifer Aniston, have been voted the two most popular actors by the viewing public at the 33rd People’s Choice Awards. The awards ceremony was aired by CBS from the Shrine Auditorium and the show was hosted by Queen Latifah. The People’s Choice awards are unique because unlike other awards, the winners here are chosen by the people, who cast their ballot over the Internet.

Johnny Depp won his award for his role in the buccaneering Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. Depp himself was busy filming in London, and therefore could not attend the ceremony.

Speaking via satellite from London, Depp said the recognition had been a humbling experience from him. He said the award was special as it was decided by the people, and that he was employed because of them. “I know that I've said this before. But the fact that this award comes from the people, makes it all the more special. And thanks for keeping me employed, yeah? You're the boss.”

Jennifer Aniston won the other top award that was up for the night, best female movie star, for her performance in the recent movie, The Break Up. Besides The Break Up and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, other movies that made it to the awards list included Click and Cars.

Others who made the favorites list for the night included Justin Timberlake, Eva Longoria, Rascal Flatts, Nickelback, Carrie Underwood, Ellen Degeneres, Kenny Chesney, Halle Berry, and Patrick Dempsey. Eva Longoria won the award for best female television star. Halle Berry won her award for the favorite female action star.

Pirates of the Caribbean, in fact, had a stellar night, picking up five awards including Depp’s favorite male star. The other four were for favorite male action star (Johnny Depp), favorite on-screen match-up (Johnny Depp-Kiera Knightley), favorite movie, and favorite drama.

Other notable winners for the night included Ellen Degeneres for favorite funny female star, Robin Williams for favorite funny male star, Vince Vaughn for favorite leading man, Cameron Diaz for favorite leading lady, Click for favorite comedy movie, and Cars for favorite family movie.

The awards were also given for music and TV. In music, winners included Carrie Underwood for female singer and country song, Kenny Chesney for male singer, Nickelback for favorite group, Justin for favorite R&B (SexyBack), Shakira for pop song (Hips Don’t Lie), Bon Jovi for rock song (Who Says You Can’t Go Home), Rascal Flatts for song from a movie and remake (Life is a Highway – Cars) and Eminem for hip-hop song (Shake That).

In the TV category, awardees included Two and a Half Men for comedy, The Simpsons for animated comedy, Grey’s Anatomy for drama, American Idol for competition/reality show, The Class for new comedy, Heroes for new drama, Eva Longoria for female star, Patrick Dempsey for male star, and Ellen Degeneres for talk show host.
