Former designer Mr. Blackwell's 47th annual "Worst Dressed" list was released on Tuesday, and not one, but two ladies made it to the top, and they are none other than Britney Spears and Paris Hilton.

The life of the two damsels have been in media spotlight ever since they entered the entertainment industry and has been subjected to criticism by almost everyone.

Britney, who debuted with her single ‘Baby One More Time’, has provided regular fodder for the yellow journalism. Her kiss with Madonna at the 2003 ‘MTV Video Music Awards’ received much media attention.

She has been linked with a number of celebrities and her sexually suggestive poses; semi-nude and nude pictures for various magazines have also been the talk of the town.

Spears, shortly after her break up with hubby, have been seen frequenting clubs, wearing scanty dresses without underwear, and dancing on stage with strippers.

As far as the American Socialite and heiress of the Hilton Hotel fortune is concerned, her life has been under regular media and public eyes. Tabloids have discussed her personal life widely and she has gained a reputation of “19 year old socialite”, and was identified as “New York’s Leading It Girl”.

Besides being linked with a large number of celebrities, Hilton has landed herself in hot soups for drunk driving, catfight with Shanna, etc.

Hilton and Brit kindled a friendly relation at Hollywood and Las Vegas nightclubs last year. Hilton, along with Nicky Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Richie, has been labeled as the “Party Girl”, and after announcing her split with Kevin Federline in November, Britney too joined the brigade.

Mr. Blackwell described the two as “Style-free and fashion deprived”.
"Two peas in an overexposed pod," Blackwell said of the scanty garb worn by the two celebutantes he called the "Screamgirls."

Not only Spears and Hilton were subjected to Blackwell’s sartorial skewering, but a number of other celebrities became the target of the acid-tongue critic of celebrity fashion.

Camilla Parker-Bowles, a member of the British royal family, who finished No. 2 on the list, was described as "duchess of dowdy" and a "royal wreck" because of her fondness for feathered hats.

Lohan was on the No. 3 spot, and Blackwell called her "tragically trapped in fashion's fast lane".

Christina Aguilera secured the No. 4 spot and Blackwell’s poison pen described her as a "dazzling singer" but added that she "puts good taste through the wardrobe wringer. All crass and no class."

He referred to Mariah Carey as "Mariah the fashion pariah … the queen of catastrophic kitsch," and "American Idol" judge Paula Abdul as "a fallen fashion idol", who stood at the No.5 and No. 6 spot respectively.

Sharon Stone and Tori Spelling were on the 7th and 8th spot and Blackwell said actress Sharon Stone resembles "an over-the-hill Cruella DeVille," and Tori Spelling embodies "down and out in Beverly Hills."

Sandra Oh and Meryl Streep were also regarded as the fashion fiascoes, finishing at No.9 and No.10 spot respectively.

On a more genial note, Blackwell offered his 10 "fabulous fashion independents" actresses Kate Winslet, Angelina Jolie and Helen Mirren, singers Barbra Streisand and Beyonce, California Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Princess Charlotte of Monaco, model Heidi Klum and actresses Katie Holmes and Marcia Cross.

Mr. Blackwell is a fashion critic, best known for his annual "ten worst-dressed women of the year" awards, which he has given every year since 1960.

In the 1950s (after failing as an actor), he designed dresses for many well-known actresses. He also gives awards for the “best dressed female of the year”, but that list gets less publicity.

Britney has been Blackwell’s favourite target since 6 years. In the last year’s “Worst Dressed” list, Spears was on the first spot, followed by, Mary-Kate Olsen, Jessica Simpson, Eva Longoria, Mariah Carey, Paris Hilton, Anna Nicole Smith, Shakira, Lindsay Lohan and Renée Zellweger.
