Lenovo’s New Offerings Hit the Indian Trail

At last Lenovo’s latest technology offerings are here. It has launched its new notebooks in two versions, the Lenovo 3000 Y300 and the Lenovo 3000 Y500, targeted at the Indian market. Both these technology offerings are for the home consumer as well as the SOHO segment. Both these notebook versions use the much-touted biometric face recognition technology, a security measure that enables multiple users to utilize the notebooks seamlessly.

At last Lenovo’s latest technology offerings are here. It has launched its new notebooks in two versions, the Lenovo 3000 Y300 and the Lenovo 3000 Y500, targeted at the Indian market. Both these technology offerings are for the home consumer as well as the SOHO segment. Both these notebook versions use the much-touted biometric face recognition technology, a security measure that enables multiple users to utilize the notebooks seamlessly.

For hardware enthusiasts, the two notebook versions offer a mouth-watering range of features. As mentioned earlier, both have the face-recognition technology, which is supported by Veriface software. Basically, it is the stuff sci-fi is made of. The software takes a digital picture of the user’s face, extracts key features from it and makes out of it a digital map, which it then uses as a password. Unauthorized access attempts are also bookmarked into the system for later verification.

Besides the high-end sci-fi, the notebooks also have features that make it a multimedia user’s delight, including a Dolby Home Theater, a TV Tuner card, a slot-in Optical Disk Drive (ODD), and a Shuttle Center. According to Ajay Mittal, Vice President, Brand and Marketing, Lenovo India, the notebooks were an attempt to integrate modern day lifestyle elements with technology.

The Y500 is priced at between Rs. 31,990 and Rs. 69,990. The Y300 is priced at a steady Rs. 61,990. Each of these has certain common features and a few unique ones as well.

The Lenovo 3000 Y500 notebook has the following features:

• Face recognition technology
• 1.3MP built-in camera
• Integrated TV Tuner card with remote control
• A subwoofer
• An integrated Dolby Home Theater System
• 15.4” wide screen
• Integrated slot-in ODD
• Integrated touch pad

The Lenovo 3000 Y300 has the following features:

• Face recognition technology
• 1.3MP built-in camera
• Integrated slot-in ODD
• 13.1” wide screen
• Light weight (2.03 kg with the battery)
• Integrated touch pad

Along with the launch, Lenovo has kicked off its promo fare as well. The current promotional, called Face to Face, allows lucky winners of the 3000 product line a free dinner with Indian film icon Saif Ali Khan, who is the brand ambassador for Lenovo.
