Nintendo aims to redefine gaming with ‘Wii’
Nintendo has brought a radical approach to gaming with its much-awaited gaming console – Wii, stirring up quite a bit of noise in the industry with its endeavor to impress the gaming fans. It plans to redefine the way people interact with both the system and their televisions.
"The diversity of the Wii Menu has something for both gamers and non-gamers," says Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. "The options exist to help introduce current non-players to Wii and help us bring gaming to the masses."
The user-friendly Wii remote resembles a standard TV remote but with far fewer buttons. Movements are translated directly onto the TV with the help of wireless Blue-tooth technology when standing within 10 meters of the console and the remote can be swung as a tennis racket or a baseball bat while playing the respective games.
The major attraction for Wii is its price tag. At $250, it is quite a good bargain as compared to the $400 Xbox 360 and $600 PlayStation 3.
Built in a stylish approach, this machine is quite compact and will not dominate your living room the way its competitors do. If you have a wireless Internet setup, it connects instantly, letting you share messages and pictures with friends or download classic games from the past via a pay service. Online gaming is a part of future Nintendo plans.
Nintendo failed to pack two controllers with the system so, if you believe that most of the fun comes in playing with and against opponents, it’d be obligatory to buy an extra Wii remote for $40 and pool in another $20 for Nunchuk.
Nintendo is not impressive when it comes to storage with the gaming console offering only a 512 internal flash memory against the hefty storage capacity of its competitors, PS3 and Xbox 360. Besides, the visuals not being that graphically stunning in a Nintendo Wii, it might keep many away from it but the easy pick up and play mechanics of this system will definitely find buyers.
